If you're searching for a truly special, traditionally-made, one-of-a-kind lampshade, crafted by a real person rather than produced in a factory, you've come to the right place!
I design and create beautiful lampshades in my studio near Ashford, Kent. Whether I'm making an original lampshade just for you or delicately restoring an antique lampshade to its former glory, your lampshade will be individually handcrafted to your exact specification.
All The Lampshade Lady's traditional lampshades are genuinely hand-sewn (not simply "handmade" or "hand-pleated" which means glued together, by hand). Each layer of fabric is meticulously hand-stitched to the frame, ensuring exceptional attention to detail and an outstanding finish every time.
My rigid lampshades are also completely handmade, never machine-produced. As with all my work, precision and care are paramount, resulting in a beautifully finished lampshade of the very highest quality.
Lights Up!
I create lampshades for discerning private clients and businesses alike, including interior designers, luxury hotels, high-end retailers and antique dealers across the UK and overseas. Whatever you need to complement your decor, my traditional and rigid lampshades, whether for table or standard lamps, wall lights, pendants or chandeliers, will transform a space in a way that off-the-shelf designs simply cannot.
You'll enjoy a truly personal level of service. I take the time to talk everything through in detail, ensuring I fully understand your vision before assisting you in the selection of superior fabrics, linings and trimmings. Whether I'm creating a bespoke design from scratch or expertly re-covering an existing lampshade, the result will be a lampshade that exceeds your expectations.
Every lampshade is lovingly made at The Lampshade Lady's studio near Ashford in Kent where craftsmanship, care and attention to detail are at the heart of everything I do.
Imagine the pleasure of designing your own bespoke, hand-sewn lampshade, creating a beautiful heirloom piece that will delight you for years to come.
Whether you choose to have your lampshade made with a plain (tailored); knife pleated; box pleated; loose pleated (gathered around the base, knife pleated around the top); false pleated; gathered or swathed cover (to mention a few of the available options) The Lampshade Lady uses the traditional method of hand-stitching each layer to the frame, ensuring the best quality - for a similar cost to mass-produced, "handmade" lampshades that are glued-together.
Handcrafted to your specification, my popular rigid lampshades can be made from fabric or paper in a variety of shapes including round (ranging from drum to cylinder to coolie), rectangular, square, oval as well as bespoke shapes. Demi-lune lampshades for wall lights and candle-clip lampshades for chandeliers and wall lights are also available.
I have a large choice of special linings for rigid lampshades including double-sided linings for fabric or paper lined lampshades. I also make rigid lampshades with additional finishes such as bound edges, inset trimming, scalloped edges or lacing.
If you have a lampshade that's right shape and size but the colour is wrong, or if you have a lampshade in poor condition, The Lampshade Lady can help.
I'm proud to offer a re-covering, re-lining and re-trimming service to bring your lampshade back to its former, glorious self.
Re-covering your lampshade requires the same skills and time as making a new lampshade. It'll probably cost more to re-cover your lampshade than buying a factory-made, glued-together lampshade from the high street or online but it will, undoubtedly, be the right size, shape and fitting; not to mention nicer - and unique!
There is an excellent choice of carefully selected fabrics including different types and weights of silk (in hundreds of colours) and other popular fabrics including velvet, chiffon, satin, taffeta, linen and cotton to choose from at the studio and I offer a sample service for those who cannot visit.
I also have an extensive selection of beautiful trimmings that I have specifically picked for lampshades.
Alternatively you can supply your own fabric ("Customer's Own Material" / “COM”) and trimmings for your bespoke lampshade if that is your preference - I am happy to guide you through the selection process to ensure their suitability.
I stock a range of translucent lampshade diffusers. These can be left plain or I can cover them with fabric to complement or contrast with your lampshade.
Ready-Made Lampshades, Lamps and Accessories
There is a limited selection of one-off, ready-made traditional and contemporary lampshades at the studio.
I also have a selection of pre-loved table and standard lamps available to buy.
Shade carriers, harp fittings, standard plugs, round pin plugs, converters (reducing Edison Screw to bayonet cap size), spiders (adapting duplex fittings for use as pendants) and other lamp and lampshade accessories are also stocked.
